Pros: The speed and graphics performance seem to be up to par and it got a respectable score of 1948 in 3DMark 11 Basic (720p) once I updated the GPU to the latest driver. (The one Asus has listed for this model on their website did not improve performance, only Nvidia's did.) I have been able to play C&C4(TT) great on the highest settings and a demo of a not-yet-released game run smoothly on "ultra" No great feats but definitely good signs... The screen is very bright and crisp, and unless you're really into Blue-ray I see no reason to spend the extra money on a 1080p monitor if you're getting one this large. Spend that extra money on some games. The speakers and subwoofer pack a pretty good punch and sound great, you may need to mess with the equalizer a little bit for movies.
Cons: I knew what I was getting into in terms of size and weight but it was obvious the first time I picked it up that this is not the kind of computer you are going to want to carry with you to the park. She's a big girl.
Other Thoughts: Everything seems to be in order with this recertified computer. I was sure to buy the warranty since this computer has a replacement-only return policy, and I was a little worried about some kind of hardware defect to explain the price. I haven't noticed one yet. Though the product description did not list it at the time of my purchase it does have a very nice back-lit keyboard and one of the USB ports is 3.0 Most of the computer is covered in a rubberized material that gives it a smudge-free, rugged feel. I have not noticed any issues with the keyboard, touchpad or excessive fan noise.
